Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is an amazing, breathtaking, national park located primarily in Wyoming. Yellowstone has always been on my list of places to see and we finally did it last October. Although the weather in October isn’t the best, and most of the pathways are frozen in the morning, it made for an amazing view of all the geysers.

The top attraction at Yellowstone is Old Faithful, this amazing geyser is guaranteed to erupt about every hour and a half. This jaw dropping eruption can be up to 180 feet high. The easiest way to access Old Faithful is through the West entrance. The gift shop will have approximate times of next eruption posted, be sure to be there at least 15min before. You can walk around the loop to find the best view, since this tends to be a very populated area with lots of tourists coming from around the world to see this geyser erupt.

Grand prismatic springs is my favorite part of Yellowstone. This is one of the largest hot springs in the US and it has the most fascinating rainbow colors, deep blue center surrounded by reds, yellows, and oranges. Thermophilic bacteria is what causes this amazing pigmentation. This bacteria thrives on rich minerals produced by the geothermic activity at the springs. Depending on the temperature of the water, the bacteria reflects different colors. As you can see in my photos we were there on a cold day so unfortunately missed out on the high chroma colors, non the less it was still amazing.

Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic Springs were our favorites. There is so much more to do and see like the grand canyon of yellowstone, mammoth hot springs, lower geyser basin (pictures above), and you cannot forget about all the wildlife. We ran into a lot of bison, almost ran over a gray wolf, and deer.

We are definitely planning another trip to Yellowstone in the summertime so we can enjoy a different view of this majestic place.   Half of these photos were taken by my sweet ten year old. He loves photography and travel as much as I do.

With love,
